Of the Moon and the Stars 6He came upon Runner, who was at the water's edge. Her body shook with sobs as she stared into the water. He immediately planted himself at her side, pressing against her and licking her face. Her tears quelled slightly. The scent of Scar was strong on her tan pelt. It was horrifying.
"Runner," Ateyo whispered. "What happened? Tell me what happened."
Runner shook her head, but a gentle, prying nudge from Ateyo convinced her to utter a single word.
"Runner," Ateyo whispered slowly, dread seeping into his heart. "What did Scar do?"
His gaze painstakingly turned to Scar, who was not watching them, but instead had his back turned as he sat beside the acacia tree. He looked back at Runner, licking her cheek.
"Scar... he..." was the only thing Runner could manage before she burst into tears once more.
Shinu looked on, a worried look in his eyes. He glanced at Scar with a glare, and then back to Runner, eyes softening.
Then, it hit Ateyo. It made him stand up and snarl with rage as he

They began living on the island. The den was far too dangerous, with the circus caravan set up there. The Shadow Pride enjoyed it here, too.
Scar, Athena, and Kimba (who also found them a few days later) were out hunting. A peculiar thing occurred. A group of tigers arrived. There was one adult; a white, female tiger, and at least nine younger tigers, most of them white or black. Runner and Ateyo were alarmed at their numbers. They moved to the other side of the island, not wanting to start anything. They watched them from the long end of the island.
"They seemed distressed when they saw us," Ateyo said. Runner nodded.
"Want to go see what is wrong?" Runner asked. He nodded, and the two went to the tigers. They introduced themselves. The tigress ushered the young ones back and went forth, scrutinizing them before introducing herself.
"I am Tigrera." Her wary eyes traveled over Ateyo and Runner, and her nostrils flared.
"You seem to be distressed," Ateyo said carefully. "What is the mat

The world around him became red as his vision was clouded with anger. His paws ravaged the dirt under him as he sprinted at the flaming hoop. He sailed through it, the fire reflecting in his eyes and mingling with the flames of rage that burned in his normally calm eyes. Just as the human pulled the trigger, Ateyo knocked the gun from his hands. The lion landed, and turned back at the human and leaped again, faster than lighting. He roared and knocked the human over.
Fear flashed through the man's eyes as Ateyo pinned him. He sank his teeth into the man's throat, killing him instantly. He tasted the blood and was satisfied, but the taste was horrible. He rose, teeth dripping with crimson. He spit out the blood and dashed to Runner, sniffing her battered body. She was covered in lacerations from the harsh blows of the whip, and there was a lot of blood.
Ateyo turned to Scar.
"Scar! Find a way out, hurry! I'll get Runner out of here!" Ateyo called. Scar nodded and ran to the gate. He wal

Life was simple in the Shadow Pride, as far as Ateyo could see. The next day was pretty average pride things; Scar, two lionesses, and the other male lion, who was named Kimba, went out to hunt and Ateyo and Runner stayed at the den.
"Where did you get your name?" Ateyo asked her, out of curiosity.
"My father named me that before the humans in the circus killed him," she replied. This made the other male lion think for a moment.
"Do you think that he was hoping you would escape?" he inquired. Runner shrugged. There was a lengthy pause.
"What was life like in the circus?"
The question was bound to be asked sometime, and Ateyo thought now was better than never.
Runner flicked her ear. "I was called Flame Jumper. They had me jump through hoops that were on fire."
"I couldn't handle it," he said. He admired her courage and strength. Not many lionesses were like her. Of course, not many lionesses managed to escape from the circus, either. Ateyo briefly wondered what his circus name would be

Flourite Plains was, unarguably, the most vast and hottest place in the world.
The seemingly-endless plain was so vast that even it inhabitants were usually lost if they strayed too far from their home. It was not your average, flat plain; it was a land of rolling hills and such, of ridges with trees growing atop them, of gorges and lakes. Trees dotted one section of the plain, and in another a hoop, supported by a diagonal column of stone, branched off of a similar O-shaped block of stone, topped by the portal that led to a long-lost temple, the Temple of Dreams.
Surrounded by an ocean, how the entrance to the Flourite Plains was even possible was questionable. An island, not too far out to sea, was the host of yet another portal to a place called the Cape of Distant Worlds.
But today had to be the hottest day of all in these vast plains. The sweltering sun blazed down upon the land, making the
